SUMMARY:Gloucester Day 2018
DESCRIPTION:Gloucester Day 2018\nGloucester Day is a modern commemoration of the raising of the Siege of Gloucester in on 5th September 1643\, as a result of which the Parliamentarian town became known as “The City Saved by God” ; the event was revived in 2009. As well as the commemoration\, Gloucester Day is intended to celebrate the heritage and history of the city and its culture and there are two parades on the day. The first is the Mock Mayor of Barton’s Parade which includes morris dancers\, a sword bearer and a goat (honest!) who all accompany the Mayor of Barton\, who sometimes uses a rickshaw as his preferred mode of transport. The Gloucester Day Parade in the afternoon contains many of the participants from the earlier procession with the addition of bands\, drums\, historical re-enactors\, a bellman and more. It’s not often you get two parades on the same day in the same city! \nhttps://gloucesterhistoryfestival.co.uk/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:Tetbury Woolsack Races 2018
DESCRIPTION:Tetbury Woolsack Races 2018\nTetbury Woolsack Races is an annual event held on the last bank holiday Monday in May that attracts crowds of up to 5000 people and raises money for local charities and good causes. \nThe races have no greater aim than for individuals and teams to demonstrate their strength and fitness by racing whilst carrying a sack of wool – up and down a hill that reaches a gradient of 1 in 4. Around this the town celebrates with a street fair that aims to please many with street entertainers\, local stalls and amusement rides. The many catering establishments in the town also join in to provide a very local fare for visitors. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMore details can be found at the following website: \nhttp://www.tetburywoolsack.co.uk/

SUMMARY:Randwick Wap 2018
DESCRIPTION:Randwick Wap 2018\nThe Randwick Wap is a series of events during spring which culminates in a traditional procession and festival dating back to the Middle Ages. Various theories exist on how it began\, although most villagers believe it was a celebration that followed the completion of building Randwick’s parish church. The Wap was revived by Randwick’s late vicar\, Rev. Nial Morrison\, in 1972 and has steadily grown to become one of the region’s leading annual events. \nIt is a great free afternoon out for families and we have visited on many occasions.  We enjoy the procession in the village and the events on the showground afterwards. \nHere is the website for more details\nhttp://www.randwick.org.uk/Wap/Wap.html \nIf it’s a nice day we highly recommend you go along to this free event.

SUMMARY:Eddie The Eagle Edwards Try Hard Evening
DESCRIPTION:An evening with Eddie the Eagle at Cheltenham Town hall: \n  \nEddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards is a unique British sporting hero with an incredible story to tell. The world’s ninth-fastest amateur downhill speed skier went on to become Great Britain’s first Olympic (self-taught!) Ski-Jumper\, who missed out on medals by some distance\, but won the hearts of the nation with his plucky\, positive attitude and down-to-earth persona and emerged as a star of the Calgary ’88 Winter Olympics\, returning to Britain as an overnight sporting celebrity. \nIn Try Hard\, Eddie talks through his incredible life-journey; from self-learning ski-jumping and being shunned by the sporting establishment\, to the extensive surgery to rebuild his face and body following years of spectacular crashes on the snow as he set out to break world-records in stunt jumping (10 cars & six buses) and speed-skiing (106.8mph); from bankruptcy through trustees’ mismanagement\, to gaining a Law degree\, and even how he became a most unlikely pop-star in Finland\, above all\, what will shine through is the steely resilience of a fearless man determined to overcome huge sporting and life hurdles \nBook here: \nhttp://www.cheltenhamtownhall.org.uk/event/eddie-the-eagle-edwards-try-hard-160755/

SUMMARY:Puddle Jumping- Championships
DESCRIPTION:This February half term\, children of all ages are being encouraged to grab their wellies\, get outside and join in the puddle jumping championship being held at Slimbridge Wetland Centre \nThis year WWT’s new children’s character\, Dusty Duck is joining in the fun and helping kids create the biggest\, craziest splash possible. \nDusty was exclusively designed by the world-famous Aardman studios to help celebrate WWT’s 70th anniversary by getting children closer to nature. \nChildren will compete against each other to see who can produce the biggest splash from their puddle jump.  They will also be judged on their enthusiasm and jumping style.  Daily winners will be announced throughout the half term and some lucky ‘super-splashers’ will receive a fantastic prize from Dusty Duck himself!
